The hammerfist is a great tool to use to get started in your self defense training.  It doesn't take long to learn, and you can generate a good amount of power behind the strike to do damage to someone attacking you.  It also takes less practice to master than a typical punch, because you are using the padded part of your fist, instead of your knuckles. This protects your hand and makes it less likely that you will hurt yourself while striking than if you were doing a standard punch, which if done incorrectly, can lead to wrist, hand, and finger injuries." 

In this video, I teach Alyson Stoner and Lindsay Taylor how to throw a strong and effective hammerfist strike and have them do a high-energy drill to work and perfect this technique that will improve their cardio conditioning, knowledge of their body mechanics and building aggressiveness to use if ever needed in a situation where defending themselves was required, making this a great overall workout as well as a move that can help save your life.
